Harambee
/huh-RAHM-bay/
Swahili verb
: let’s pull together
Founded in 2023, Mama’s Harambee is centered around the rallying cry and theme “to work together”. The journey through motherhood takes a village, especially during those first weeks postpartum.
Our weekly postpartum peer-support groups, are designed to create a safe space for Black moms to navigate the postpartum journey in community.
These sessions are facilitated by black mental health professionals who provide tools and teach skills for managing topics like:
Anxiety and depression
Baby blues
Reducing stress
Feelings of overwhelm
Education on signs & symptoms PMADs
Birth trauma
Parenting & Co-parenting
Our goal is to bridge the gap in maternal mental health services and improve the postpartum experience of black moms.
Mama’s Harambee
Mama’s Harambee was birthed out of a dream to see a thriving postpartum community for black mothers who could walk the road together. Come just as you are and bring your little one too!
About the founder
Dominnique Green is a native of the Inland Empire. She is a mother, trained Doula, and Social Worker (Howard University, MSW ‘24) who is passionate about supporting mothers on their postpartum journey. Her work in the community is grounded in the proverb,
“If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together”.
Dominnique prides herself in creating a safe environment for participants to feel seen, heard, and valued. Understanding that we’re more than just the titles we hold, she helps remind others of who they are and how powerful they are as individuals.
She is an active member of Sankofa Birthworkers Collective, the Maternal Health Network of San Bernardino, and currently provides administrative support for the Riverside & San Bernardino County PEI Community Doula Programs.
In her free time, you can find her singing, exploring with her son, or attending a concert.
About the Co-Facilitator
Susan Lowe is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Perinatal Mental Health Certified professional with over a decade of experience supporting birthing people through the emotional journey of motherhood. As both a mother and proud grandmother, Susan brings deep compassion, clinical knowledge, and lived wisdom to her role as the mental health facilitator for Mama’s Harambee.
Each week, she co-leads this culturally-rooted postpartum support group with care and presence, creating a space where Black moms can exhale, speak freely, and feel truly supported.
At Mama’s Harambee, Susan gently guides conversations about the emotional ups and downs that can follow birth — including sadness, anxiety, irritability, or feeling overwhelmed. These are sometimes referred to as PMADs (Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders), and Susan helps moms make sense of what they’re feeling, offering tools, education, and reassurance along the way.
Come as you are. Stay as long as you need.
Mama, your village is here.
